You know we love an escape room here at PSG, and having played a lot between us, it was bound to happen that one of us would reach the 100 escape rooms milestone and that is exactly what happened last week. I finally played my 100th room and what a corker of a room it was. Enigma Escapes Wakefield was the destination and I had chosen Grimm Up North, a fairytale themed escape room where fairytales had gone wrong and we needed to complete the happily ever afters.

This 75 minute game is essentially split into two games. In the time limit you have to complete three main fairytales. Once you’ve completed these three, any time you have left can be used to complete additional ever afters. But how did we get on. Our group was welcomed by the very enthusiastic Kieran who explained the room and then led us to it. There could be potential spoilers ahead, so read ahead with caution.
The room itself starts off in one small room, which is very well themed to a study. Here we had to open the portal to the fairytale realm and after solving a few puzzles we succeeded. We were in the fairytale world. I won’t go into detail about the room as it’s best to go without knowing. The high level of theming was kept throughout the entire game and it was brilliant to feel immersed into a room. We’ve played many where that immersion was sorely lacking but this room never failed to deliver on its charm and attention to detail.
The puzzles throughout the game were perfectly blended to the theme and definitely required team work but you could still split off and search or solve other puzzles if others were occupied, especially after you’ve complete the main story of the room. The puzzles never felt out of place and there were quite a few moments where the answer just clicked after taking a second to think about it.

The room was a lot of fun and definitely up there as one of my favourites. It had the perfect blend of story and theming that mixed well with the puzzles and you could tell a bit of time was spent on working out the way this could be done when the planning went into the room. I really loved the mix of team work and solo elements as no one ever felt like they were just standing around. We managed to solve an additional 10 ever afters on top of the main story too! A brilliant room and one I can’t recommend enough.
