SCREAMS at Thornton Hall Review 2024

We were very kindly invited to this year's Screams. Whilst we were given free entry to the event, we have full editorial control of what our review of the event says.

OUR SLASHER REVIEW

Screams at Thornton Hall Country Park has returned with three new attractions: Malkin Manor, Jinxed, and Black Market. We experienced a warmly lit entrance and a scenic climb to the mazes. After a 40-minute wait for Malkin Manor, we joined a paranormal vlogging team for a disorienting and intense haunted house experience filled with continuous scares. Next, we enjoyed Jinxed, a clown maze that was both chaotic and comedic, featuring actors that surprised and entertained. Unfortunately, time constraints prevented us from experiencing Black Market, which we heard was unique and exciting. We regretted not booking an earlier time slot to enjoy all the attractions.

Top Tips - Arrive early

Things that bite - Booking a later time slot does not mean you will get to experience everything.

Value for Money - Yes, I'd say so

Scare Rating - 4/5

Do we recommend - Yes

OUR STALKER REVIEW

Screams at Thornton Hall Country Park returned after a few years break with three new attractions and we were lucky enough to be invited along to experience the event. The event has on offer in Malkin Manor, Jinxed and Black Market. We arrived at 8pm, our booked time and were greeted by a very warmly lit entrance way to the event. The mazes are spread over a hill so be prepared for a little climb. Also on offer was a pumpkin patch and bar area. After a long and traffic filled journey we arrived and ran for the loo (it’s a bit of a hike to the loos but you pass some farmyard animals so I can’t complain), but ten minutes later we headed up the hill to our first attraction of the night, Malkin Manor.

We queued for about 40 minutes for this. They were batching in small groups and we love that. It makes the scares feel a bit more individual. Outside is very unassuming and it’s not until you are waiting to go in that the story starts to play out. The actor batching the groups explained that she was part of a paranormal vlogging team and we’d be joining their vlog to explore this haunted house. Once inside you are met with some great themeing (just don’t look up). Inside it was dark and creepy. The scares were constant. There were dead ends and it was very discombobulating. They use every available space they have and it genuinely felt like it wasn’t going to end. The scares really were thick and fast and it was a lot. We had a great run.

The queues for the mazes close at 9:30 and coming out at five to nine we were hopeful we could experience the remaining two so we trundled up to the top to experience Jinxed, their clown maze. We waited about half an hour and again it was small batches and our group went in as a group of 4. Inside we were greeted by a really great start. The actor came out of no where and really got in our faces and this set the tone for the rest of the attraction. It’s a very disorientating attraction. You never feel quite sure of where you are supposed to go and it adds to the chaos of the maze. The actors really went for it and gave a comedic yet terrifying experience. They came out of everywhere and really went for the scares. We came out laughing and screaming. Again the attraction uses every possible space to bring a really great time.

By the time we came out, unfortunately we had run out of time and didn’t get to experience Black Market and I am truly gutted as from what we had heard after, it sounded amazing and incredibly unique. I wish we had booked an earlier time slot to arrive so we could have experienced everything. I don’t think the 8pm arrival time works to get through everything especially if the event closes at 9:30, but I’m glad we booked the later time as traffic from the south coast was crazy.
